Kairos Power develops the fluoride-salt-cooled high-temperature reactor (KP-FHR) with TRISO pebble fuel. Hermes 1, a 35 MWt non-power test reactor at Oak Ridge, has been under safety-related construction since 1 May 2025 (construction permit December 2023; completion deadline extended to 30 Apr 2029, now expected 2028). Hermes 2, a roughly 50 MWe demonstration plant on the same site with a construction permit from November 2024, broke ground on 17 Apr 2026; its output will go to the TVA grid under a PPA supporting Google data centres, following the 2024 Kairos-Google master agreement.
